The campaign
Magomed Kurbaitaev, who calls himself a Dagestani purple belt and builds a software product, posted on 28 August 2026 that he was selling ad space on his tournament gi. The pitch was a joke about brand exposure during grappling: a logo pressed against an opponent's face while they try not to get submitted. He put the shop link in the first reply rather than in the post itself.
The shop, titled The Black Belt Project and framed as sponsorship of his journey to black belt, shows a technical drawing of the gi with 10 numbered positions. Prices are fixed in US dollars and paid once through Stripe: 950 for the center back, 750 for the upper back, 650 for each chest side, 500 for the lower back panel, 350 for each shoulder, 300 for the front thigh and 275 for each upper sleeve. The full board is worth 5,050 dollars. Buyers upload artwork at checkout or by email, sales are final, and the site says the limited-run gi goes into production with all committed sponsors applied.
